Welcome to the Young Alumni Support Program of Girard College
Tony Askew is Girard's Director of College Advising and Young Alumni Support, as well as Assistant Dean for Academic Partnerships
Askew has over 20 years of experience working in the field of education at various levels. For the School District of Philadelphia, he coordinated advanced academics, and for The Princeton Review, he was responsible for collaborating with school districts across the country to help increase the number of students enrolling in post-secondary education. In the area of College Admission and Enrollment Management, he has coordinated the recruitment divisions at Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pennsylvania and Slippery Rock University. Most recently, he served as Assistant Vice President of Recruitment and Retention at the University of Maryland University College.
His position, created with funding from Girard's class of 1960, provides structured and consistent support to recent Girard College graduates to ensure a seamless transition into the academic and professional world. This support will arm students with the confidence and skills necessary to become the informed, ethical and productive citizens they were meant to be.
Working with young alumni will allow him to identify and address the challenges they face as fledgling college students. As Askew learns from these young alumni, he hopes to collaborate with current staff and students to create and sustain a culture of college readiness within the Girard community as well.
In this role, his priorities will be to:
- Build relationships with current students as well as young alumni; create focus groups with both populations to understand critical services and resources needed to ensure college/life success
- Connect with key staff members to understand and build upon existing systems and support services
- Identify partners and outside resources that will support his role and our college-bound students
